Sorry for the late upload guys, I've been doing a lot of bike riding during the end of the year for a challenge on the Strava app.
Anyhow, last month I was able to rush over to Kukaniloko to view my second Winter Solstice at Kukaniloko. Since starting this blog.
On the way there I pulled over just before the Ka Uka Blvd. off ramp to view a suspected ahu. This is technically still part of my last blog entry about Waiawa. While reading up on some cultural impact studies of the area, I came across this ahu that has been recognized by Tom Lenchanko. It is a stone wall of some sort that has no modern record. Although some claim it could just be a rock support for the telephone pole right next to it. Others say it's an ahu that marks the ahupua'a boundary of Waiawa and Waipio. The stones are small and uniform in relation to each other. I might return to take a closer look. As it is located across the gulch along the H2 freeway. It's cool that you can see it while driving on the freeway...
I arrived at Kukaniloko with about half an hour before the sunset. So I had some time to soak in the scenery. Jo-Lin Lenchanko was there and I was actually reminded of this important event in one of her emails from the Wahiawa Civic Club. She recently sent out another email with her own take on the event and she even points out that Venus arose above Kukaniloko on this night.
I will stop here and let you observe for yourself, the alignment of the year in relation to the Waianae range and Kukaniloko...
