Museum Friday

A collection of Pohaku Ku'i at the Bishop Museum. I was fortunate enough to pound some Kalo last night. While learning about the traditional way to prepare one of the three "ai" from the aina...
 
 
The different parts of a Pohaku Ku'i are the Ku'au, the curved neck section. Mole, the rounded bottom. Ka'e, the circle on the outer edge of the bottom. As well as the Oheoheo, on top.
These Pohaku Ku'i would be used on a wooden Papa Ku'i ai with a Poho reservoir cut out of the middle. The motion of folding the ai either Uala, Kalo, or Ulu. Is similar to that of one pulling in their net as they fished, Pepelu...
